Nicola is known in the embroidery world for her bird embroidery kits, decorated with William Morris-inspired patterns. She has been teaching hand embroidery for twenty-four years since training at the world class Royal School of Needlework.

Ultimately Nicola sees herself as an artist who uses embroidery in a range of art, design and textile applications.

She has created embroidered samples for numerous British fashion companies and worked on the lace for the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress. She assisted in designing, launching and running the Royal School of Needlework degree curriculum from 2007 – 2011. Over the last ten years she has formulated and delivered independent site-specific embroidery courses in stately homes and museums across the UK and USA.

In July 2013, Nicola staged her collaborative exhibition ‘The Art of Embroidery’, inspired by the designs of William and May Morris. This popular show was invited to tour selected William Morris-linked venues in England, including National Trust property Wightwick Manor in the West Midlands. The show will draw to a close after a six-month installation at Blackwell House on Lake Windermere in December 2016.

Nicola operates her kit design and teaching business – Nicola Jarvis Studio, from her beautiful studio based on the outskirts of Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
